Licensed Contractors

The State of Maine does not have a licensed builder or a licensed contractor program. This is why we have been taking courses and working with other members of the Builders Alliance to enhance the Accredited Builder Program. Our goal is to give homeowners a place where they can go to find professional builders and contractors. We want to be part of a group of like minded builders who compete based on service, skills, and professionalism.

Maine Contractors & Builders Alliance – Certified Builder

The Maine Contractors & Builders Alliance is an association comprised of professionals of the housing and light commercial industries. The Maine Contractors & Builders Alliance’s mission is to improve the building industry while providing quality housing for the people of Maine. The Maine Contractors & Builders Alliance seeks to achieve the following goals: To be recognized as an organization of professionals who subscribe to a code of ethics. To be the trade association for membership of those connected with the building industry. To be an authority for those associated with the building industry, government officials, and the public.  To be a valuable source of information and education to members of the industry, government and public. To be proactive in legislative and regulatory issues. To strengthen the Alliance, enabling us to provide and expand services to its membership and the community.

Daggett Builders, Inc belongs to a very small and select group of builders who have voluntarily completed the required training to become a Certified Builder.   :

Building Codes

Contract Law

OSHA Safety Training

Ethics

The education committee expanded the certification program to four levels.     We call those levels Bronze (the basic four courses), Silver, Gold, and Platinum.   Our goal in making this list public is to encourage more builders to take courses,  to improve their professionalism, and to set up a friendly but fair competition.

We also want the Builders Alliance’s website to be the go to place for homeowners looking for contractors who have voluntarily taken all of the same courses that a licensed contractor would have to take and more.     Daggett Builders needs to take just one more course to reach the Platinum Level.  We plan to take this course as soon as we can make the time.

In addition to working on the Certified Builder Program with the Builders Alliance, we would like to establish a co-op of like minded builders.   We have met with and brainstormed with other successful builders in the area as well as like-minded builders in other states.   There is a lot of interest in it and we have drafted a great business plan.  It is overwhelming to keep up with changes in the industry, regulations, technology,  and the shortage of reliable and talented employees, while also running a construction business.

Now is the time to think outside the box and work together to improve the way we serve our clients.  We welcome building trades people to contact us to discuss this further.
